Character Background

• History: wiki link
• Core Relationships:

Ephraim and Mira Bridger: Birth parents, arrested and imprisoned when Ezra was 7. Ezra never saw them again (aside from Force visions) but they taught him about standing up in solidarity. ( both deceased)

Kanan Jarrus: Master, teacher, adoptive father in all but name. Kanan taught Ezra about how to wield a lightsaber of course, but was always skeptical Jedi acting as soldiers. He placed emphasis on the Force as a connecting energy, that a Jedi should use to bring balance and facilitate peace, not use merely as a weapon. (deceased)

Hera Syndulla: Captain of the Ghost, which was home to Ezra and the rest of the Scepters when in missions, and eventually a general in the Alliance. Adoptive mother in all but name. She taught him to always hold onto hope. More practically, she taught him to fly space freighters and star fighters.

Sabine Wren: Mandolarian, artist, and demolition expert. Brief teenage crush, but now Ezra sees her as basically his foster sister. Ezra also helped teach her to wield a Mandolarian artifact called the Darksaber, and went with her when he returned to her homeworld to confront her birth family, who had effectively exiled her for opposing the Empire. He joined her fight to kick the Imperial governor out of her home system. She later returned the favor to help end the Imperial blockade of his own homeworld of Lothal.

The one he says he trusts to always have his back
.
Zeb Orrelios: Roomate, comrade in arms, and adopted big brother of sorts. Their relationship started off adversarial - Zeb regarded Ezra as a whiny teenager who wasn't much of fighter, and a little overall useless. Ezra likewise did not seem impressed by Zeb. However, over time their sniping at each other settled into teasing and moments of quiet companionship. Notably, Zeb's people have a local Force religion, which might explain why when Ezra does things like talk to wolves and space whales, Zeb is more accepting of that sort of wierdness than some of their other associates.

Ahsoka Tano: Another of his teachers in the ways of the Force, even though she says she's not a Jedi anymore. Ahsoka is indulgent of some of Ezra's more child-like moments, perhaps because she herself had to grow up too fast as a teenager fighting in the Clone Wars. Ezra certainly seems to soak up those bits of open affection. She’s saved his life a bunch of times, on dangerous missions. One time, he managed to save hers.

It's Ahsoka who talks Ezra through accepting Kanan's death rather than using part of the Jedi temple on Lothal to change the past.

Rex: The clone commander who taught Ezra about being a soldier. There's some open tug of war at points, between Kanan and Rex on where Ezra's focus should be in training. Rex emphasizes combat as part of a unit. Kanan doesn't like to think of Jedi as soldiers, even when they use a lightsaber. Both agree that at times Ezra lacks discipline - a criticism that can still make Ezra doubt himself. Ezra regards Rex as extended family. He and two of his clone brothers volunteer to go with Ezra to help free Lothal, citing that it's good to fight alongside Jedi again.

• Summary of CRAU Impact:

The Revival Project is a game set on planet, called Agra-10, where aliens called Agrii were using people to try and rebuild their society. Ocassionally the Agrii also send people on offworld missions via assigned ships.

As part of the rebuilding effort Ezra picked up some handy skills with gardening, animal caretaking, and spinning wool. On top of that Ezra added to his training in the Force alongside the other Jedi on Agra. He also spent a month on Coruscant (albeit about 900 years before his canon), when the Agri sent everyone on Agra-10 there. Ezra spent a lot of that month at the Jedi Temple, gaining a new lightsaber crystal, a set of traditional Jedi robes, some holocrons with a selection of works from the Jedi archivse, and a little better understanding of the Order as a community and culture. He also got very a crash course on using the Force to heal and support the growth of living things. That latter skill helped him with his efforts in agriculture.

The community at Agra-10 was pretty small, and Ezra put effort into trying to get to know as many people as he could. Some key relationship from The Revival Project that are most likely to continue to impact him are -

Obi-wan Kenobi: Ezra met Obi-wan Kenobi first in his canon. The Agra-10 version was much younger, from not long after the fall of the Jedi Order and rise of the Empire. Despite his grief and doubts, Obi-wan was willing to take Ezra and the other young Jedi who arrived at Temba on as students. Ezra threw himself into finishing his training as a padawan. He came to regard Obi-wan as close chosen family and his second master.

During a period of time in a memory altering bubble reality created by Billy Kaplan, he gained a hazy set of memories of a lifetime as an ordinary American school kid. The version of Obi-wan that fit into that reality was a much older brother who raised him. After the bubble reality was ended, they agreed to keep considering each other as chosen brothers.

Padme Amidala (and infant Skywalkers): While on the Agrii sent mission to Coruscant, Ezra met Padme on their mutually assigned ship - very pregnant and very upset, since she’d been fleeing the rise of the Empire and trying to find her husband.

Padme safely gave birth to her babies at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, and named them Luke and Leia. Ezra was generally concerned for the new mother and her babies, and he also knew Obi-wan considered her a close friend, so Ezra immediately stepped up to help as much as he could. Ezra was later told by Obi-wan in confidence that the twins’ father was Anakin Skywalker, Obi-wan’s former padawan. Padme avoided talking much about Anakin, but Ezra came to privately regard her as family as well, since Obi-wan had been helping raise the twins, and Anakin could be considered Ezra’s absent padawan-brother through their relationship to Obi-wan, anyway.

Luke Skywalker (post-ROTJ): And then, when twins were several months old, Knight Luke Skywalker arrived on Agra-10. Ezra liked this grown up Luke a lot, but was also a little intimated by his raw power in the Force, and skill with a lightsaber. And then there’s the whole thing where back home, they should be the same age, on top of Ezra's having babysat the infant version of Luke.

He and Luke had a lot of long talks about growing up as orphans on the Outer Rim, about the similarities and differences in their training as Jedi, and about the Sith and the Empire. And about Vader - where Vader and Anakin Skywalker begins and ends.

Kyle Broflovski: One of the more solid friendships Ezra made with people not from his home galaxy. They got off to a rough start, when Ezra called for a town meeting, and Kyle expressed concerns about groups from various times and places being big enough (including the one from a GFFA) to pressure the rest of the town into falling in line. Ezra took some offense, but reached out again to talk more later. Over time they came to realize they are both people who can have sharp tempers, but were also determined to have some lively conversations, stick together, and call each other on their bullshit.

Character Personality Through Key Moments

(2+) Positive Experiences:
(2+) Negative Experiences:

(Negative) Ezra was essentially orphaned when his parents were arrested for speaking out against the Empire. Ezra was either very proficient already at hiding or no one stepped up to take care of him, or both. Until he was nearly 15, he survived largely on his own, partly through petty thieving and cons. Being a loner, or stealing and lying isn’t how he seems happiest operating, but he can do such things, and do them well, if he has to. Even at the end of his canon, he isn’t above working alongside unrepentant pirates and smugglers.

(Positive) Probably the most important event in Ezra’s life if being found and taken in by the crew of the Ghost aka the Spectres. He’s shown as being initially wary of everyone and cynical. After years of being his own, the Spectres gave him an unconventional but solid and supportive family structure. At one point, Kanan Jarrus, his Jedi master, remarks that he doesn’t really have much more to teach Ezra about the Force, since he himself never completed traditional training. Ezra responses that he thinks he has much more like about life, and being a good person; those are the most important things he has learned from Kanan and the rest of his family.

(Mostly Positive) Another positive experience for Ezra has, with the aid of the Specters, is broadcasting a message to the people of Lothal, similar to the sort that his parents were arrested for. He asks his fellow Lothalians to look at what the Empire has done to their lives and argues that things will not got better unless the people stand up and fight back. He admits there will be sacrifice, but that they can’t let fear win.

The situation on Lothal does not get immediately better – in fact it gets worse for several years. However, the broadcast reached much further than Lothal; other rebels boosted the broadcast, Rebel leaders like Ahsoka Tano and Bail Organa decided to use it as a rallying cry to begin to bring cells together and form a greater force that was named the Rebel Alliance.

(Negative) While he never fully reverts to self-protective self-centeredness after joining the crew of the Ghost, his temper, stubbornness, and protectiveness of others can lead him to mistakes and questionable choices. On Malachor, he seemed to embrace Maul's urging to use negative emotion, as well take Maul’s flattery at face value. The trust he extends leads to Maul blinding Kanan. Then, believing Ahsoka Tano had been killed by Vader, and reeling from his master being blinded, Ezra used his anger to open a Sith holocron and listened to what it had to teach him for months Fortunately, even when Ezra made significant and dangerous mistakes, his adopted family never cast him aside, and he eventually turned away from dabbling in the Dark Side.

(Positive...ish)

From that point on, Ezra does his best to try to live as a Jedi. However, his understanding of what that means is filtered through his the times he lives in. He doesn’t really have hangups that lead to him keeping people at a distance – he explicitly calls the Spectres his family on multiple occasions and shows a lot of personal loyalty to them. On the other hand, he is very results oriented.

In the end, he seems to try to strike a balance between his personal feelings, methods, and ends. He is not a pacifist, but will try less than lethal methods if he sees the option. He loves individuals, and will go to great lengths to help them. However, through Force weirdness he is presented, within days of each other, with two major choices that show he is not willing to go any length to save someone. He is young and can’t always see the greater good or the long view, but he does try to keep them in mind.

First, he is given a chance to try to save his recently deceased Jedi Master. However, when it is pointed out to him Kanan laid down his life to save the rest of their family and to further their mission to liberate Lothal, Ezra lets the moment pass, and accepts that he has to let his teacher and father figure go. Secondly, the Emperor presents Ezra with the chance to alter time so that he has a life with his long lost birth parents. What, exactly, the Emperor hopes to gain from this temptation is unclear, but Ezra realizing he can’t trust the source of this dream come true or the potential consequences, promises his parents that he loves them and they will always be a part of him, but makes the difficult choice to reject the Emperor’s promises.

Deer Country Attributes

• Canon Powers:

Ezra is a Force sensitive trained as a Jedi. His abilities include:

Empathy/Telepathy - Ezra's strongest talents as a Jedi are his ability to detect, connect with, and influence minds, both humanoid and animal. He's connected with a wide variety of animals, from small cats, to ray like flying creatures, to huge whale-like space voyagers. With people that he knows well, while concentrating, he's been able to detect their location down to a level on a ship or in a building from many miles away. He's proficient with the Jedi Mind Trick and while he was dabbling with the Dark Side he was able to outright control an enemy soldier, from a significant distance away, into shooting their own squadmates and walking their vehicle over a cliff.

Visions/Clairvoyance - Ezra has a numbers of visions across his canon, of events of the near future or taking place far away. They can be detailed, or give some indication of a variety of potential path/outcomes, but they are rarely straightforward. He is accepting of this dubious gift, but aware he has to use anything he sees this way with caution.

Telekinesis - Like most Jedi, Ezra can use his connection to the Force to move objects with touching them. It generally needs to be something he can see, or sense very well with the Force. The upper limit of his ability is vague but he can pretty reliably move people or large rocks. Fine control that might lend itself to say, starting a fire, is not something he's been taught.

Lightsaber training/swordsmanship - Ezra has training wielding a lightsaber . . However, he is not the strongest duelist. He actually seems to be better at blaster fire deflection.

Enhanced physical attributes - While he is able to channel the Force, Ezra can boost his strength, speed, agility, and endurance well beyond human norm. Thus, he can handle most ordinary soldiers fairly easily. However, his record going toe to toe with other trained Force sensitives is not good, and presumably this would apply to combatants with magic or other powers. Getting clever tactically is a better option for him.

• Blood Type: Palebood
• Omen: A white loth-cat
• Blessed Day: February 9 (corresponds to the air date of “Call to Action” 1x13 in which Ezra broadcasts a speech urging the people of Lothal to stand up together against the Empire)
• Patron Pthumerian: Doorway
• Blood Power Manifestation: Paleblood fits Ezra’s canon power set well, and he’s already thematically strongly associated with the moonlight of his homeworld. Thorough gameplay, he could pick up dream walking, and in general do more with telepathy and visions that don’t fit demonstrated canon on the Force perfectly. Perhaps his more physical abilities like telekenesis could be less reliable, especially in daylight.
